Matthew 13
24Jesus told them another parable: "The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field. 25But while everyone was sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and went away. 26When the wheat sprouted and formed heads, then the weeds also appeared.
Lord Jesus--In the middle of life stuff happens. Weeds come up when I have planted the very best that we I the opportunity to plant. Lord you know so much better than I do the battle that rages all around me. Satan is alive and well even if sometimes I tend to live as if He were a myth. He is still there. In the middle of sowing the best seed the enemy can come in and do harm.
In the middle of the battle, it is good to remember who the enemy.
Ephesians 6:12
12For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
People are never the enemy, not at all. The religious elite of your day were not the enemy, nor was that silly man Herod, or that sad man Pilate who condemned you to death. They were just being used...or maybe more accurately they were allowing themselves to be used.
Lord Jesus--In the middle of seeing the weeds and their reality remind me of the wheat that is also growing all around me. You know me so well Lord Jesus, you know that I can get fixated on the weeds...think about them, worry about them and in the middle of it all miss the wheat that is maturing all around me.
27"The owner's servants came to him and said, 'Sir, didn't you sow good seed in your field? Where then did the weeds come from?' 28" 'An enemy did this,' he replied.
"The servants asked him, 'Do you want us to go and pull them up?'
"The servants asked him, 'Do you want us to go and pull them up?'
Lord Jesus--In the middle of real life there will always be questions. In a way it is in the questions that I establish relevance. Is there something that is wrong with the seed that the weeds come up? No. In the real world weeds are a part of the work of it.
29" 'No,' he answered, 'because while you are pulling the weeds, you may root up the wheat with them. 30Let both grow together until the harvest. At that time I will tell the harvesters: First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles to be burned; then gather the wheat and bring it into my barn.' "
Lord Jesus--This is a mixed up muddled up world. In so many ways the weeds and the wheat surround me. I am not always bright enough or in-tune with You enough to sort it all out. I depend on you for the sorting process. I will sow the seed as best and as faithfully as I can. I will tend the crop with all the diligence that is within me...
Lord Jesus I ask Your blessing on the harvest of these efforts. From first to last this is the work of grace this soul food harvest that you are growing all around me. Bless the harvest.
